I used to think so. That it was messed up. But then I stop and think of stories like yours. Or Reese's, whose marriage came to a grinding halt on a country road somewhere - and who blamed herself for so long. So, having acquired some perspective, I'd say I'm bloody lucky in that department.

Who are you celebrating Christmas with, by the way? I got an invite from my mom, to join her in Falkirk for the holidays but still gave no answer. I'd definitely prefer staying home with red wine, a jazz record and a chimney fire but I'm still not sure. Filial duty and all that crap.

Etta invited me to her house, and Callie to join my family. Also, Reese invited me, but I'm sure she'll prefer to be alone with her newly husband.
Maybe with Basil, since I'm sure, Cam is gonna be away with his family, I don't know yet. My dog for sure, a christmas tree, a box full of chocolates and a ton of alcohol.
I'm quite unbearable when Christmas is around the corner. I need at least three christmas trees, a shit load of decoration, cookies shaped in trees, gingerbread men, candy canes, snow - of course, a pyjama with christmas fathers on it, and the Grinch on replay.

Christmas is supposed to be a family celebration, isn't it? You're actually making it sound as if there's literally no one you would like less to be gathering with on Christmas Eve than your family. I like it, to tell you the truth. Reduces the guilt I'm feeling surrounding the fact that I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to spend the holidays with my mom.
It'll just be so sad. The two of us. For the first time. I definitely think she and I will be better off not acknowledging Christmas at all.
Perhaps the Grinch had it right all along, you know. Wise, wise creature.

When was the Grinch wrong, though? Christmas shouldn't be about the gifts, but about love and being with people you love doing something special for them. For exemple, forcing them to help with the dinner, or decorate a christmas tree, cause they lack of it. I'm telling you, when I'll be done with Basil and Cam's apartment, they'll forever remember me as the Christmas Elf.
